...the BolderBoulder via the Super Bowl Shuffle

Today, I ran my first 5k of the year in Grand Junction.  Well, I didn't really 'run' it...I jogged and walked it.  But, I finished in 42 minutes and it is my first step towards making my way to running in the BolderBoulder on Memorial Day!

When I woke up this morning, I almost called my friend Holly and told her that I wasn't feeling well and was just going to hang around the house...but I sucked it up and decided that if I keep saying that I am not going to do something, well, then I'm not going to end up doing anything!  And, that's not how life should be lived!

The 5K today was also a fundraiser for one the non-profits that I think is great in town.  I wanted to see that it will be successful, too.  I may have been one of the last runners to finish, but I don't care.  It's a place to start.

Holly and I started the race together and I probably lasted 1.3 miles of running straight without stopping.  Then I had to finish the race walking here and running there.  My friend Miquette and I finished the race together.  Even though I know I'm not at the top of my running game right now, I have something to start from and improve to.

If I am going to make it to the BolderBoulder, today taught me that I need to incorporate more cardio into my workouts.  I train twice a week with a trainer, and we focus a lot on strength training.  It's time to add more days a week in the gym with more cardio. My goal this week is to do two more days of cardio, on top of my two days of strength training.
